Nabari no Ou: Still liking all the lead characters so far. Kumohira's dorkishness! Aizawa's dedication to ninjutsu! Miharu's awareness of the power of his "I am a fragile blushing flower" appearance, and the fact that he happily uses it to his advantage or just to screw with people's heads! And...okay, at this point the only thing to recommend Yoite is his hat and his mysterious background, which I already spoiled myself for. Possibly he will get more interesting when I can comprehend more of the actual story.
Am starting to fall absolutely in love with Raimei, though. I adored her madly after episode three--a ninja show in which the girl got to beat someone up right away! And she wasn't the only character who got completely stomped by the episode's main antagonist! Then after her defeat, she sits very quietly under a tree, apparently moping...then jumps up and shouts, "All right! I've finished my contemplation!" and runs off for more training! ...yeah, I realize that, despite apparently having a Tragic Backstory of her own, it's more than likely she'll either drop off the radar once the main plot kicks in or get hit by Rukia Syndrome. But for the moment? ♥!
(Plus the idea of a modern ninja clan that has their own website-meeting place. It's so obvious, isn't it?)
Also, as a shameful fangirl confession, I am weak to any story that gives me canon powers involving markings- or words-on-skin, because I immediately start working out how to mix it with Yami no Matsuei and turn Hisoka's curse marks into something that lets him Kill People With His Brain. (Really, I have two or three AUs of this type scurrying around already, all of them fusions/borrowings from different series. I can't actually do anything with them, but they're lovely shiny things to have in one's mind.)
Kyou Kara Maou S3: Fun so far, and the sudden development of PLOT! is spiffy, especially if the next arc ends up being as Murata- and/or Conrad-centric as the hints are implying--but I wish I hadn't made the error of trying to think seriously about the characters and the world during the pre-season wait, because this is not really a series that rewards that kind of thinking.
Also this season has reminded me of why I can't pay much attention to the fandom, even in my typical lurkerish way--if I try, I get the sense that the immaturity and the "SRS BSNS" mindset are starting to creep into my own brain. Is there some sort of organization I can join to help stop that process? Sane Fans for the Promotion of Mental Health? I don't know why 10+ years of being a mostly stable and polite fan are failing me in this instance--and why couldn't it be for a series that's not insane, brightly colored fangirl bait?--but I dislike the feeling of wanting to sock somebody in the mouth because of a dispute over people who don't exist. If I wanted that I could have just gone into the English Department. :D
Honestly, though, if some of the things that the more KKM insane fans are predicting actually happen? I will kill someone eat my hat. At the moment I do not actually own any hats, but I will buy one specifically for the purpose if it becomes necessary. Which it won't, because this isn't that kind of series.
Soul Eater: What two_if_by_sea said. Standard shounen thus far, but it's wrapped up in such stylish and amusing trappings that I don't care. No idea if it can sustain the cool for 50+ episodes, though--or if it can keep the fanservice on the not-skeevy side for that long, either.
Monochrome Factor: What woodburner said. I should ashamed of watching this, because it's like the series creators cracked open the skulls of a bunch of teenage BL fangirls, rummaged around until they found the most typical squee-triggers, and tossed them up onto the screen. As a result it's terrible and embarrassing but highly entertaining in its awfulness.
Tried to watch the next season of Code Geass, but I had to take a break after I misheard Rolo's name as 'Lolo' and started picturing the brothers as those two puffball characters from Adventures of Lolo. The show is ridiculous anyway, but that pushed it over the limit. (Which one would have the pink hairbow?)
Someone pointed out a link to a shop taking pre-orders for a gorgeous Princess Tutu figure. Thank god I have no place to display these kinds of things and am thus spared the temptation to order one. Mostly.
Books: Nothing at the moment, but I realized this morning that Project Gutenberg has quite a few selections from the Elsie Dinsmore series. These books are, um, interesting, in that "I really hope this read more innocently in the nineteenth century than it does now" kind of way. It might be fun to spend the next couple of days rereading a couple of them to see if they can still make me goggle-eyed with horror.
Work is busy. New project is keeping me cheerful, but the rest of life (?) is suffering as a result and I don't seem to have the energy or the inclination to fix the problem. I keep wishing that I could stop updating this journal, lock the whole thing down, and only use it for occasional commenting, but people won't keep dead journals friended. *sigh* |
